Private Family Sessions

I am available for private consultation with families in need of conflict resolution.
The conflict resolution process I facilitate is one that I developed based on my training as a mediator and my study of nonviolent communication. Following is an overview of that process.

  1. I conduct an initial phone interview to determine if your family is an appropriate candidate for mediation. I will ask you a few simple questions in order to determine if I can help and mediation is a right process for your family. Situations involving violence, substance abuse and/or mental illness are not generally amenable to mediation.
  2. If we both agree that mediation is the right process for your situation, we schedule a session, usually within one week. Mediation usually takes at least 2 hours but no more than 4 hours. Before our session I will ask everyone who intends to be present at the mediation to review the Agreement to Mediate that includes groundrules that will be observed during the mediation. All parties will be expected to sign the agreement before the mediation process begins.
  3. After all parties have signed the Agreement to Mediate, the mediation process will begin. Following is an overview of the process.
    • Opening Statements: Each party will have an uninterrupted opportunity to discuss the circumstances that brought you to mediation. I reflect back what I hear and ask for clarification of any points that are unclear.
    • Identifying Needs and Making Requests: We identify the needs that were expressed during the opening statements and begin to formulate requests based on those needs.
    • Developing an Agreement: An agreement is developed based on specific requests that honor the needs of every family member.

The end result is a durable, win-win agreement that is based on consensus rather than compromise.

The fee for private mediation is billed on an hourly basis at a rate of $80.00 per hour. You should plan for 4 hours at a total cost of $320.00.
